Stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen….Detric Frost Sheridan was born Dec 24, 2011 6:43pm. 7 lbs 4 oz, 21 1/2 inches. We are all doing well so far….hope to get a few photos up after we get home!

We had our reasons.  I (Eric O) had a wedding to put together, for one thing.  Elizabeth had a very adorable baby right at the start of the year.  And now Jill is having one too (very soon, within days of this being posted, in all probability).  Makes it kind of hard to tour when you’ve got a newborn or are several months pregnant, since most venues don’t provide onsite child care or offer prenatal checkups.

But we haven’t been entirely idle.  We’ve been working on a bunch of new tracks, which are proving to be a bit of a departure from our previous work, I’ve been doing a hefty chunk of production and remix work for other bands this year as well as playing as part of Caustic on a number of shows, and we did release some remixes and a live EP this year.  And we fulfilled a dream of playing the Union Terrace, which was a pretty good way to end our live engagements for the year.

On a sad note, Elizabeth will be departing for warmer, sunnier climes soon, as she and her family move to Louisiana.  She will be missed, since she’s played with us since…gosh, 2005?  A loooooong time.  She’s been a cheerful, organized member of the band all the while, plus she was great at long-distance driving and packing.  Did I mention how much we’re going to miss her?  But we all wish her, Dr. Nick and Alexander the very very best!

So to celebrate, we’re releasing a chunk of songs I’ve been sitting on for a while.  “Something More Exciting Than A Tornado: Null Device Live at WORT-FM.”

Before we struck out on tour last year, we stopped by the local radio station to talk with our good friend and host of “Something Wonderful, Dr. Ryan Parks, and we played a few songs.  These would be those.

Naturally, because nothing can ever run entirely smoothly with a Null Device performance, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for most of the listening area mere moments before we were due to start.  Undeterred, we played on, risking our very safety in the name of musical entertainment!

This is kind of a big deal for us.  When I first came to Madison as a wee lad, I went with my family to the Union and saw some jazz-rock band playing on the terrace.  I thought to myself, yeah someday I’m going to do that.  And now we are.  Relatedly, every member of ND was at some point an attendee at the Union Directorate’s “dmf” dance club during the 90′s.  So it’s kind of a homecoming.

With 2011 as our 10 year anniversary of WTII Records and also the 5th
anniversary of the WTII Records “Live Sunday Showcases” we decided to do
something big….

So yeah, they’re doing a 4-day fest in Chicago at the Abbey Pub.   We’re playing on Saturday, and that night the ever-awesome Stromkern is headlining.  On Sunday, The Dark Clan is playing and the legendary Die Warzau is headlining.  Other performers include Rein[forced], Christ Analogue (!), I:Scintilla, Trigger 10d, Patricia Wake, am.Psych, The Gothsicles, Ego Likeness, and about a dozen more.

Also, we’ve got another show coming up, but we don’t have a date for it yet.  That should also be dope, because it’ll fulfills a long-standing (albeit somewhat silly) ambition for me.  Memorial Union Terrace, UW Madison!  Soooooon!
