We’ve been dropping subtle hints on social media, and if you visited the website in the past few weeks you might’ve noticed we’ve changed a few things.

The new album has a title, most of a tracklist, and a rough target date.

“Perihelion.”

Summer 2013 (late july or early august, depending on manufacturing).

Ten tracks.  8 of them are in already finished, the last two are close to being finished, minus some vocal takes and mixing.  We’ve played a few of the tracks live and have previewed a few others on soundcloud over the past few months.

So there it is.

The year in review:

We eased back in to playing live after a brief, baby-related hiatus with a couple of kickass  gigs, including one epic show at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and a one-night-only performance as a Depeche Mode cover band.  We’ve streamlined our live setup a lot and are hoping in the next year to be a little more nimble when it comes to the various kinds of gigs we can accept.

Didn’t release much, but we put out a few singles – covers, one-offs, remixes, etc.  They’re all available at our bandcamp site or on SoundCloud.

Still in the process of writing our next full-length.  It’s slow going, but we’re making progress.  I’m really excited about some of the tracks we have mostly in the can.  If all goes according to plan, we’ll have this done by the end of summer 2013, and be touring to support it.

We’ve acquired gear.  We do that.

Lots of stuff to keep us busy for the next few months.

So once again, Happy Merry to everyone out there, and here’s looking forward to a great 2013.

One week!

We’ve put together a set that highlights pretty much every album from…well, from 1980 to 1993, because we only get a 45 minute set.  And we skipped “A Broken Frame” because there’s no way I’m singing about my monument falling down. We got the costumes, we got the song choices, and we’ve been spending a ludicrous amount of time replicating the correct synthesizer noises.  And Matt gets to beat on a “spookaphone” like a spastic monkey.

But yeah, it’s gunna be a good time.

Yeah, I’m guessing you’ve wondered why this took so long.  It was inevitable, really.  I mean Eric O, Eric G and Jill have always been huge, incredibly nerdy and detailed Depeche Mode fans.  We even have the fonts to prove it.

Also! High Noon Saloon, Friday Oct 26th, for Dane101′s Freakin’ Halloweekend.  Also featuring tributes to Beck, Hole, The Stooges and the Minute Men.  And then Saturday, tributes to Bowie, Boston, Gillian Welch, Bikini KIll, and the Violent Femmes.

Starts at 6:30.  We go on at 7:30 and play until 9 (but we get a break, of course.)

All proceeds from this release will be donated to the fund for the victims of the Oak Creek Sikh Temple shooting.

It seemed appropriate that Null Device, which has borrowed from the Panjabi musical tradition for well on a decade now, should use this track to support that community in their time of need.

MMOCA will be celebrating the opening of a new exhibit by Leo Villareal, an artist acclaimed for his installations of LED art.

We’ll be performing in the lobby from 7:30 until 9ish, with a brief intermission in the middle there.  Expect a lot of material; old stuff, new stuff, originals, covers…plus, hey, amazing artwork, food-and-drink, and all the fancifulness one expects to accompany a large-scale art opening.

Anyway, it’s a really cool gig!

That’s right, kids, after a long hiatus, we’re rolling back into the live world with a benefit show to celebrate the release of Electronic Saviors II, the massive 6-disc anti-cancer benefit compilation. June 9th at The Inferno.

It’ll be us, The Dark Clan, Caustic, and Sensuous Enemy, all of who have tracks on the comp (TDC, in some form or another, has involvement on like 300 songs on the disc, because Dan is a prolific producer and guest artist). We’ll be rolling out a few new tracks, and some other goodies.

It’s gunna be a good time, for a good cause!

Null Device has an exclusive, unreleased, new and exciting track on it, “Through Closing Eyes.”  (hey, everybody!  Sitars!)  But we’re not the only ones.  Our friends in The Dark Clan, Caustic, The Gothsicles, Rein[forced], Ego Likeness, The Azoic, I:Scintilla, am.psych, The Mighty Chouffe, SD6, Sensuous Enemy, Patricia Wake, Xuberx, ThouShaltNot, Interface, Boole, Everything Goes Cold, Lowe, and…well, basically anybody we’ve ever played a show with, met in passing, or are just vaguely familiar with – they’re all on there, along with Longtime Big Genre Guys like Covenant, Aesthetic Perfection, 16Volt, and Project Pitchfork.  And oh so many more.

This whole magnificent six-disc beastie was put together by Uncle Jimmy Semonik, himself a survivor of a rather nasty bout with cancer.  The dude’s put his heart, soul, mind and body into getting this together, and it shows.  All proceeds go to cancer-related charities like Gilda’s Club.  There’s also an 8-disc limited edition box set available, too.

Good tunes for a good cause.
