Night Owl

(oehler)

Why am I out until 3
I’m not as young as I used to be
I love the music
I love the crowd
I love it big
and I love it loud
How do I know when to stop
Before I become a laughingstock
How long can I keep this up
As a night owl staying up

Me and my kind
We used to own the night
Living it up
Until the morning light
Dressed up and made up
We were faintly ridiculous
But in those days
We really lived for this

I may have had too much to drink
And now I can’t help but think
I once was brash
and I was too rambunctious
But I could handle
such overindulgence
Now who’s indulging me
I’m a shade of what used to be
How long can I keep this up
As a night owl staying up

Wisdom comes with the years
I can’t be hostage to my fears
I’ve got myself a nice
bit of perspective
I probably should be less
introspective
I still love this stuff
I won’t lose it growing up
As long as I keep this up
I’m a night owl staying up
