Twisting and Turning
(oehler/goedken)
Can you hear that when you laugh I sing?
Did you know when you hurt I bleed?
Now you know just where this will go
You’re aware of how this will feel
Come on, come on
Now rise with me
And twist and turn
And see what I see
Rising
Longing
Twisting
Rising
Come on, come on
Now rise with me
And twist and turn
And see what I see
Come on, come on, come on
Rise with me
Rising up and through
We soar so high
Rising up and through
We leave the sky
Twisting and turning
We move as one
Twisting and turning
We move into the sun
Twisting and turning
Come on, come on, come on
Twisting and turning
Rising
Rising

[EO] This track almost didn’t happen. I’d met Ramya after I’d placed an ad looking for a singer with Bollywood-vocalist-like abilities. Ramya answered, and surprisingly enough she didn’t merely have Bollywood-like experience, she’d actually done some playback singing on the Hrithik Roshan film “Kaho Na Pyaar Hai.” So she was The Real Deal, and was just ludicrously talented.
The problem was that ludicrously talented people are usually very busy, and she was no exception – between teaching music, finishing up her doctorate, and preparing for her arangetram performance (a big deal in Carnatic Bharatanatyam dance), we could never quite make our schedules mesh. I had dropped a snippet of her demo reel into the song, hoping we could later re-record it. This became less and less probable as time went on, and eventually I planned to just use the existing sample – but I also started to worry that I wouldn’t be able to get permission to use that, either. A last minute email from Ramya verifying that she was the owner of the recording and I could use it (followed by me jumping through all the hoops to get mechanical royalties and all that jazz paid) meant everything fell into place.
Which was good, because it was my favorite track on the album.
